Black Forest -
2009

This year (2009) I went for several short trips to photograph in the Black Forest. The first trip was a hiking tour through the Wutachschlucht , which is a canyon in the south eastern part of the Black forest. Thereafter I photographed in this and other regions of the southern Black forest in spring and autumn. |

Most of the pictures in this series are panoramic photographes which are
stitched together from several shots with a dsl. Only two photographs are shot
with the large-formate Arca-Swiss. The pictures stitched together from 15 or more shots have a similar resolution to the scans of my large-formate transparencies. |

The sun warms the slope facing south and melts away the snow, but the riverbanks and the northfacing slope remain in the freezing cold shadow. |

| The next time I came back there in the end of May, the lining forest had regained its green coat. |

A long section of the Wutachschlucht is a nature reserve.

The hights of the eastern Black
Forest are rather flat. But the river has burrowed its canyon there through. The
clouds indicate where the canyon meanders.

 After some warm days in April, a storm approached the forests. Something like greenish smoke appeared with the first gust above the forests.These clouds consisted of pure pollen which were shaken out of the blooming trees. During my autumn trip I spent some days in the Wiesental. It opens to the south. From the valley floor half way up there is a zone with lovely mountain meadows. |

| Particularly in autumn you can experience stationary temperature inversions. That means that you can enjoy the warm sun walking over the mountain meadows, whereas it is cold and foggy at the valley floor. Under these conditions you can often see the chain of the alps at the horizion. |
